Success at Juvenile All Ireland’s
The clubs juveniles had two very busy weekends at the All Ireland Indoors in AIT . An unprecedented number of club qualifiers from the Ulster finals at Magherafelt achieved a number of very good performances, qualified for a number finals and won seven podium finishes/medals. Congrats to all and thanks to the coaches and parents for support over the two weekends

In the Under 14 Shot Putt Leo Carey-McDermott,12.36m/2nd and clubmate Johnie McGonagle. 10.06m/8th got the day off to a great start. Competing in their first All Ireland,Under 12 Shot Putters, Cormac Carr, 8.03m/8th, Shay OHalloran,6.83m and Adam Barnes, U16/8.60m were all happy with their performances.
Six club hurdlers qualified for the All Ireland’s. Four Niamh Mohan, Lucy McGlynn, Ben Campbell and Eoin Sharkey fought their way into finals via competitive semi finals. Results Niamh Mohan,9.47secs/2nd/SF and 9.26sec/6th/final; Lucey McGlynn, 9.70secs/2nd/S/F and 9.83sec/8th in final; Ben Campbell, 9.68sec/2nd/S/F and 9.96secs/6th in final; Eoin Sharkey,9.27secs/3rd/S/F and 9.14secs/6th in final. Rachal Gallagher, U14/10.26/5th s/f and Lexi Campbell, U13/10.55secs/4th s/f also were delighted with their performances.

Saturday, the opening day of the Indoors is reserved for relays and some field events and is associated with a packed stadium and no small amount of noise, jubilation and what if’s. Anna Reibling was the first club athlete in action where she finished 4th in the Girls U16 Pole Vault. In the afternoon the Under 14 Girls 4 x 200m Ulster champions squad of Niamh Mohan, Rahael Gallagher, Aoibhinn McGarraigle, Emer O’Brien and Lucy McGlynn, in semi final two of three ran four seconds PB of 1min 54.86secs for an impressive victory and automatic final qualification. In the late afternoon final they improved their time by 1.5secs, in a closely fought decider. to take home bronze medals – the first National medals for this group of young athletes, 1 Dooneen,1.52.33; 2 Leevale, 1.52.40; 3 Tir Chonaill 1.53.19; 4 Cushinstown, 1.53.42; 5 Rataoth 1.53.43; 6 Doheny 1.53.99
