Councillors concerned over guidelines for boundaries outside new houses

While there was much discussion at a meeting of Sligo County Council on the County Development Plan about issue of planning for rural housing, some councillors complained about moves to retain natural features such as roadside hedges and ditches outside new homes.

Senior Planner Frank Moylan said they were trying to retain as much of natural boundaries as possible.

He also said public safety will override retention of hedgerows.

But a number of councillors, including Fianna Fail’s Paul Taylor and Joe Queenan, hit out at any effort to prevent people building walls along roads outside their new houses.

Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley was in no doubt about who to blame; she says all this is coming from An Taisce.
