Inquest hears Sligo musician died from stab wounds



An inquest in Sligo has heard that a musician from the town died as a result of two stab wounds to the neck during in an incident in his home.

A jury at Sligo Coroner’s Court yesterday returned a verdict of unlawful killing in the case of 59-year old Martin (Matt) Kivlehan.

Det Insp Ray Mulderrig told the inquest that Martin Kivlehan’s brother, Christopher, discovered his body on the floor of his home at Holborn Street, in the early hours of August 3rd, 2015.

A postmortem found evidence of two stab wounds to the neck, one to the right side and one on the left.

Two people have been charged in connection with the case, which is expected to be heard in the Central Criminal court later this year.
