Taoiseach slams MacSharry for ‘negativity’ on rural Ireland



The Taoiseach has hit back at Fianna Fail TD Marc MacSharry accusing him of coming into the Dail chamber week after week with the same negative rhetoric on rural Ireland.

Enda Kenny, himself a rural TD, made the comments in response to a number of questions on the situation facing the future of post offices in the Dail yesterday.

He said there is no ‘secret government plan’ to undermine post offices or rural Ireland.

Deputy MacSharry said this was the latest attack on the regions saying the North West is barely mentioned in the new National Planning Framework.

Enda Kenny said there is a lot of positive work going on in rural areas as he saw firsthand at a Leader event in Sligo last week, which he accused the Fianna Fail TD of failing to attend:
