Housing minister accused of failing to progress plans to reform commercial rates



A Donegal TD has accused the Minister for housing and local government of failing to progress plans for reforming Commercial Rates as quickly as possible.

Fianna Fail deputy Pat ‘The Cope’ Gallagher says he is aware of very little progress made in the past 12 months despite department commitments to make the current system fairer and more equitable for those paying commercial rates.

Deputy Gallagher says profit margins and turnover are not yet taken into account and it is leading to higher rates which are putting a burden on businesses in small rural areas of the North West.

He says the current system is outdated and grossly unfair:
