Chris MacManus coopted onto Sligo Council seat long-held by his father

A new councillor was coopted onto Sligo County Council this morning.

At this morning’s council meeting, Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy proposed Chris MacManus for the seat that had been held by his father, Sean.

This was seconded by Independent Councillor Declan Bree.

Chris MacManus previously served for 15 years as a member of Sligo Borough Council.
Councillors also unanimously agreed that positions on seven committees and groups that had been held by Cllr Sean MacManus would be filled by his son.

They include the Cranmore Regeneration Sub-Committee, a homeless forum and the joint policing committee.

In his acceptance speech, Cllr MacManus said he wanted Sligo to be a place where quality of public service is matched by the quality of public services.

And he added that as a Republican the Proclamation is the lynchpin of what he stands for.
After his cooption he told Ocean FM he was eager to start in his new role:
