Sligo Traveller Group says Taoiseach’s announcement will boost employment prospects



The recognition of Travellers as an official ethnic group will build confidence and improve employment prospects for Travellers.

That’s according to the Sligo Traveller Support Group who is welcoming the announcement by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny yesterday evening to recognise Travellers as an enthnic group for the first time.

It follows decades of campaigning and the recommendation from many national and international groups including the UN.

A report just last month highlighted a number of disadvantages suffered by Travellers in education, accommodation and health.
