Lack of DEIS funding appeal confirmed

It has been confirmed that schools in disadvantaged areas that were unsuccessful in their DEIS applications for funding will not be able to appeal.

Donegal Fianna Fail Deputy Pat The Cope Gallagher says there is no appeals process.

He says that in reply to a Dail question, he was told a ‘verification process’ is provided for schools wishing to obtain the information used to determine the level of disadvantage of its pupils.

But he says no further schools will be added to the DEIS plan.

Deputy Gallagher told Ocean FM News it will lead to situations where some schools will be in DEIS and others not in DEIS, even though they may be in the same area and in similar situations.
