Two decades needed to complete LIS works in Leitrim with current funding



A senior engineer in Leitrim says it would take 20 years to carry out all of the Local Improvement scheme works in the county based on the current levels of funding.

LIS schemes involve improvement works to private roads where there are two or more homes.

The issue was raised at a meeting of the Manorhamilton district yesterday where Fianna Fail Councillor Mary Bohan called on the region’s TDs to put pressure on the government to reestablish a special funding stream for this work.

In the meantime, Councils are allowed to fund such work from their descretionary funding.

But Senior roads engineer in Leitrim Shay O’Connor says based on the amount of money available to them from that stream it would take almost 20 years to clear the list:
