Sligo becomes first certified Coach Friendly Destination in Ireland

A final certification has been awarded to Sligo town making it the first in Ireland to receive the title of Coach Friendly Destination.

New bus shelters, town maps and lighting as well as CCTV have been installed along Markievicz road as part of the project which now means the town can host up to nine coaches at a time.

Sligo County Council and the Sligo Business Improvement District are also developing new driver maps and a voucher based system offering complimentary lunch to drivers and guides

The entire project was a coming together of Sligo council, the Sligo BID group, Failte Ireland and the Sligo Chamber of Commerce.

CEO of Sligo BID Gail McGibbon told Ocean FM she believes this is only the start for Sligo.
