Uncertainty still surrounding post offices in Blacklion, Ballygawley

Today was the day it was feared Blacklion Post Office in County Cavan was to close — until the postmistress there agreed to remain on until the end of this month.

However, uncertainty surrounds the future of it and Ballygawley Post Office in Sligo, despite them being under review now for some time by An Post.

An announcement is now expected in the coming days about the future of Blacklion Post Office.

However, postmistress Dympna Stewart told Ocean FM today she was ‘no wiser’ about what is going to happen.

Meanwhile, there is growing disappointment in the Ballygawley area of County Sligo over the lack of information on what’s going to happen in the post office there.

Yesterday, Thomas Walsh, one of those involved in the campaign to hold onto the post office in the village, said people now feel An post is treating them with contempt because of the delay in making an announcement.

Cavan Fianna Fail County Councillor John Paul Feeley told Ocean FM News this afternoon he had hoped to have news on the post office in Blacklion by this stage.

However, he says it’s important people who might be willing to run the post office in the town are given the opportunity to do so.
