Sligo Tesco staff won’t take part in today’s strike due to technical error

It will now be at least another two weeks before staff who are members of the Mandate union at the Tesco stores in Sligo and Ballina go on strike – if they vote to do so.

The row is over proposed changes to contracts of over 250 long-serving workers.

It had been expected that staff in Sligo would be on strike today and that those in Ballina would strike on Friday.

However, because of what the union described as a technical error in the original ballot, these staff are now going to be reballoted.

Mandate’s representative in Sligo, Ciaran Campbell says because of this error, it would not be legal for staff in Sligo and Ballina to take part in the strike.

Mr Campbell tells Ocean FM News what the new timeline for industrial action in Sligo and Ballina now is.
