Bishop: ‘Joined up thinking needed to solve health crisis’



A Catholic bishop says joined-up thinking is needed in order to provide adequate step-down facilities and nursing home care for those leaving hospitals.

Bishop Kevin Doran of the Diocese of Elphin, a former chaplain at UCD where he ministered to medical students, adds that nothing much has changed about the hours worked by junior hospital doctors.

He was speaking in Sligo Cathedral at the weekend on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes which also celebrated World Day of Prayer for the Sick.

Speaking to Ocean FM News today, he says the healthcare service itself is sick and in need of healing.

He says it’s not acceptable to see the length of time sick, elderly and frail people have to spend on trolleys;
