A retiring county councillor in Sligo has hit out at some commentators in the national media for what he has described as the ‘denigration and undermining’ of councillors.
Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor and former Mayor of Sligo Sean MacManus also condemned what he branded ‘the poison of social media where any lies are acceptable.’
The outgoing Councillor has over two decades service in local politics and was also heavily involved in the peace process and ran for national elections a number of times.
He made his comments yesterday afternoon during his farewell speech at a meeting of Sligo County Council.
