Calls for TDs to ensure retention of veterinary laboratory in Sligo



There are calls for TDs in the region to ensure there is no threat to the future of the District Veterinary Office in Dunally in Sligo.

The office serves farmers in the whole of the north west region and the concerns come following a review of the 6 labs around the country.

Local sources say the review which was made available to staff before Christmas recommends Sligo as one of three offices that could be closed as part of cost-saving measures.

A motion by south Sligo Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley calling on the Minister for Agriculture to retain the office was passed at a meeting of the Council yesterday.

Meanwhile tonight, the IFA is holding an information meeting in Drumshanbo and the future of this lab will be one topic on the agenda.
