Nevermind broadband, you can barely get a mobile signal in parts of Leitrim



A North Leitrim councillor says that while there is much need for improved broadband in rural areas, a renewed focus needs to be put on the ordinary mobile phone service.

Fine Gael Councillor Sean McDermott says the mobile phone service is getting worse.

He was speaking after an Irish Central Border Area Network meeting in Enniskillen which discussed telecommunications.

He told Ocean FM News that people in rural areas depends on mobile phoe to do their business.

But he says he knows of people who have come to the North Leitrim area who are now thinking about leaving because of the poor service:
