Farmers continue to hold meetings on ANC payments



Farming organisations are continuing to meet on the issue of the ANC payments.

Formerly the disadvantaged area payments, they are now under review by the Department.

The Irish Farmers Association held a meeting with Donegal farmers on the issue this week.

Chairman Michael Chance outlined that the IFA has a number of demands including: that the allocation for ANCs must be fully restored to pre-Budget 2009 levels of €250m; payment rates should be pitched at the level that reflects the natural handicap for various areas; and,
farmers in hill areas should have a front-loaded payment on 20ha and a target of €6,000.

Meanwhile, the Irish Natura and Hill farmers Association is calling for a doubling of the payments.

The group is holding a meeting in the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny tonight.
