Sligo starts celebration this evening as 2017 Euro Capital of Volunteering



A year-long celebration of Sligo’s selection as the 2017 European Capital of Volunteering will start this evening.

It will get underway at 7:30pm in IT Sligo’s Knocknarea Arena with a spectacular concert featuring classical, traditional and contemporary music, including the work of TG4 Composer of the Year Michael Rooney.

Called ‘The Spirit of Sligo’ event, it will follow a civil reception at 5pm in the Institute’s Aurivo Auditorium.

Among those expected to attend is the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charlie Flanagan.
