Strand Celtic welcomed current Champions Boyle Celtic to Strandhill on Saturday night for this title clash in The Great Southern Hotel Sligo Super League and it was indeed a game of two halves. Strand were the dominant force in the first forty-five minutes starting at a high tempo and taking the lead on nine minutes with a blistering finish from the very brave Mark Mc Callion who was substituted immediately after with an injury. Young Matthew Conlon Oates made an immediate impact when coming on making some very good runs but it was the silver fox himself Gareth Kelly who rattled home the second goal for Strand giving Kyle Suffin no chance in the Boyle Celtic goals. Boyle came back into the game briefly on sixteen minutes when the ever-alert Mick Corrigan tapped home past Oisin Conway in the Strand goals. four minutes later Boyle Celtic lost right full Aaron Murrin with an injury and he was replaced by Gerard Mc Dermottroe. Eight minutes from half time the strand Celtic keeper played a pin point kick out to Mark Mc Goldrick he completely outpaced his marker to fire home an unstoppable shot high into the roof of the Boyle net. Three goals to one at half time and it looked all over for Boyle.

However, it’s hard to keep a good team down the second half was a minute old when a high ball into the Strand goals caused havoc keeper Oisin Conway was unable to claim it and once again Mick Corrigan was on hand to steal the vital touch and it was game on. Boyle were now on fire and on fifty minutes a cross from the left was met by the head of Mick Corrigan who grabbed his hat trick and levelled the game. Strand were under pressure losing Gareth Kelly with injury. Ryan Mc Manus had a brilliant game at the centre of defence while Barry O Mahoney was superb in midfield prompting some excellent runs from Aaron O Boyle and Mark Mc Goldrick. But Boyle Celtic stood solid with Lochlan Conboy making countless interceptions at the heart of their defence and right full Dessie Carlos also had an outstanding game. Both sides were now in open attacking mode and victory fell to Boyle Celtic nineteen minutes from time with a superb run down the right wing and a sublime finish from Shane Battles and took all three points. This was indeed a great game of football from both sides welled refereed by Paul Kilcoyne and both sets of players were a credit to their clubs.

Carbury FC continue to dominate they travelled to the Bee Park for the challenge of Manor Rangers Niall Walsh scoring a hat trick for Manor. Carbury have in Dylan Edwards a goal machine hitting four bringing his tally to eighteen goals in fourteen games. Ibrahim Savage got taken down in the penalty area Referee Owen Mc Laughlin sent off Thomas Mc Donald pointed to the spot and Ibrahim dispatched the penalty to the back of the net. Andre Mills added the sixth for a rampant Carbury who will be hard caught on this display.

Ballisodare United with the only goal of the game coming twenty minutes from time courtesy of a header from Kevin O Hara took all three points at home to Yeats United. Match Official Glen Gilmartin complimented Ballisodare United for the superb pitch and markings on their grounds, well done Ballisodare.

Aughanagh Celtic hosted St John’s at Ballinafad and the visitors emerged winners by the odd goal in nine. Robert Fahy had St John’s ahead by two goals after only twenty minutes. Aughanagh Celtic fought back with Dermot Beggan netting and then goal poacher supreme Paul Mc Tiernan levelled matters to leave it all square at half time. Early in the second half Conor Mc Padden gave Aughanagh Celtic the lead and then it looked done and dusted when Dermot Beggan scored his second and Aughanagh had the lead by two goals. Twenty minutes from time Robert Galvin gave St John’s hope with a fine strike and ten minutes later David O Reilly under immense pressure in attempting to clear his lines scored an own goal and it was level pegging. The clock was ticking down and with two minutes remaining up stepped Brendan Fitzsimmons who blast home a glorious winner for  a jubilant St John’s. But Full credit here to both teams for a great game of football.

Glenview Stars were playing neighbours Calry Bohs at Forthill the Big Man Gino O Boyle netted once and Clive Brennan added two more goals to give Stars a share of the spoils. Gearoid Keaney netted twice for Calry Bohs and Ciaran Stenson added the third for a vital point for Calry Bohs.

The Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier has it all with every club biting at the bit for honours. Ballygawley Celtic lead the race on goal difference. They travelled to play the young Guns of Merville United Jordan Muldoon and Ryan Hargadon had scored for Merville while Colm Mc Tiernan and Gary Fowley had netted for Ballygawley Celtic that was until late in the game. Referee Tomas Oates gave dam Devaney his marching orders on eighty-seven minutes and in injury time up popped Gary Fowley to crack home a massive winner for Ballygawley Celtic.

MCR journeyed to take on North Sligo Kingpins Cliffoney Celtic one goal decided this game a powerful free kick from Niall Thomas flew past MCR net minder William Burke who had no chance with this effort. Cliffoney were delighted to take all three points but MCR are also a major force and have in William Burke an outstanding net minder.

Arrow Harps welcomed Carrick Town to Riverstown for this clash of the titans. The first score coming fifty minutes into play when Rodrigo Bouabida fired the Town into the lead. On seventy minutes’ referee Paul Harte pointed to the spot and leading scorer Daniel Willis made no mistake bringing his tally to twenty-two goals and it looked odds on for a draw. But ten minutes from time Arrow Harps were awarded a second penalty and you would have put your house on Daniel Willis scoring but his effort when over the bar and in the end both sides had to settle for a point.

The Cleary Landscapes & Pitch Maintenance Division One has South Sligo side Real Tubber top of the table after this fine win against Gurteen Celtic and the Astro in Cleveragh. Gurteen Celtic with a goal each from Martin Doherty and Michael Doddy were unlucky not to get something from this encounter but Real Tubber have that winning look about them. Fergal Mc Donagh, Jack Walsh and Aaron Murtagh were the goal heroes for Real Tubber.

Coolaney United in second spot just a point behind hit four goals away to Dromore Vila. James Ellis netting twice and a goal each from Declan Mc Cormack and Ciaran Mc Murray keep Coolaney in touching distance of silverware. The Villa scored once courtesy of a fine effort from Conor Gordon.

Chaffpool United took the lead on twenty minutes at home to Benbulben FC with a great strike from Kevin Gallagher. The Pool held this till sixty minutes when James Brennan struck a splendid equaliser for Benbulben FC that gave them a share of the points.
