Sligo IFA chairman wants western counties protected under ANC scheme



A farming representative in the north west is now calling on the Department of Agriculture to clarify exactly the situation regarding disadvantaged areas.

A major meeting was held on the issue of the ANC payments on Monday in Leitrim.

It has led to calls for TDs to raise the issue immediately with the Minister for Agriculture with farmers in the west now very fearful that their land will be removed from the maps without their notification.

Sligo IFA Chair JP Cowley is one of those who attended the meeting on Monday – he says the 12 western counties of Ireland were the basis of the setting up of this scheme and they must be protected.

But he says they remain in the dark as to how the changes under this now ANC scheme will come into effect and they are calling for clarification on the matter:
