Donegal councillor wants Irish nationals to reconsider joining British army

A Donegal county councillor has called on those thinking of joining the British Army to reconsider.

Independent Micheal Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig is making the call after recent reports say an increasing number of Irish people are joining the British armed forces.

However, he says he does not believe reports saying there is a surge in applications from Irish people, adding that he thinks it is propaganda.

He claims the British government is painting a picture of excitement and adventure about joining the British army.

And he fears young people, mainly from working class backgrounds, are ‘taken in’ by this, particularly because of the cost of third-level education.
