A south Sligo Councillor has been told environmental and archaeological assessments will be necessary before applying for funding to extend a walking trail on Keash hill, near Ballymote.
The walking trail is in the area of the historic caves of Keash hill, which has an ancient cairn on its peak.
Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley has called on the council to apply to the Department of Arts and Heritage for funding to continue the walk.
The Council Director of Services told Councillor Gormley at the December council meeting that the assessments needed will cost money and the council would have to see where it could get the funding for that.
