Local auctioneer says rental cap won’t affect Sligo

Any cap on rental increases won’t have much of an affect on places like Sligo according to a local auctioneer.

Tommy Breheny of the Oates Breheny Group in Sligo Town says supply and demand would be a bigger worry for renters than anything else.

The government are attempting to bring in a 4% cap on rental increases for a period of three years in major urban centres while Fianna Fail want to see the idea rolled out across the country.

Currently landlords can only increase rent once every two years but there is no limit on how much they can increase it by.

Tommy Breheny says rental levels in Sligo haven’t reached anywhere near peak levels yet.
