Two investigations underway into east Sligo fatality



Two separate investigations are underway into the cause of an accident that claimed the life of a man working on a windfarm in east Sligo last night.

Gardai in Ballymote are heading the investigation which happened in the mountainous area of Arigna/Ballyfarnon while the HSA has confirmed that it too has launched an investigation today.

A 37 year-old man, working on a windfarm in the area was killed after a suspected landslide struck.

A man has died following what is understood to have been a landslide in the Glen mountainous area near Arigna.

Ballymote Gardai are heading the investigation.

Super-intendent Padraic Burke confirmed that the incident happened at around half past six last night and emergency services rushed to the scene.

A number of units of the Fire Brigade, the Gardai and the Sligo Mountain rescue assisted in the search.

The body of the man was recovered at around 2am and has been removed to Sligo University Hospital.

The man, is not understood to be from the local area but was living in county Leitrim.

Garda are continuing their investigation.

Meanwhile a spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority has confirmed that they are aware of the situation and are carrying out an investigation.

Inspectors from the HSA will travel to the site today.
