Transport Minister admits ‘not enough money’ to maintain local roads



Transport minister Shane Ross has admitted there isn’t enough money to maintain the standard of local and regional roads.

The minister says he’s secured a 10 per cent increase in the budget for the upkeep of local roads in 2017.

But that only brings the budget up to 275 million euro – less than half of the 580 million that’s needed.

The minister says it will be the year 2020 before the budget for upkeep is in line with what’s needed:
