Economic recovery not yet good enough for wage rises



A member of the Donegal Town Community Chamber believes drastic wage rises in the public sector will set the country back years.

Public sector workers are threatening strike for pay increases now after gardai received an increase in recent weeks.

SIPTU want the Lansdowne road agreement renegotiated to reflect the improvement in the Irish economy.

The agreement began the process of pay restoration for nearly 300,000 State employees and was scheduled to run until September 2018 at a cost of about €900 million in total.

Ernan McGettigan told Ocean FM he believes the recovery has not hit rural Ireland enough for pay rises.
