Sligo to Dublin rail line not at risk says Irish Rail

Irish Rail have confirmed that the Sligo to Dublin rail line is not at risk.

A national review of rail services found €600 million was needed to meet the funding gap over the next five years.

There were fears that the route could be one of those under threat of closure but Barry Kenny of Irish rail confirmed to Ocean FM that is not the case.

He said the line is one of the services busiest and fastest growing.

Mr. Kenny hopes the news will calm the concerns of six year old Collooney native Darragh Walsh who sent a letter to Irish Rail urging them to keep the line open for his sick mum.
