Sligo MEP calls for discussion on implications of CETA trade deal

A Sligo MEP says she’s ‘horrified’ that the Dail is not discussing a very important planned deal between the EU and Canada.

The European Parliament will vote this week on a resolution on whether or not to refer the EU-Canada trade deal known as CETA to the European Court of Justice.

A number of MEPs are concerned about the inclusion of a controversial aspect of the trade deal that provides investors with a mechanism to sue states if they’re unhappy with certain laws.

Critics of the proposed investor protection courts say they give too much power to multinationals.
