UHL guidelines being ignored by public says INMO representative

The public are ignoring guidelines from University Hospital Letterkenny and it is contributing greatly to overcrowding.

That’s the view of Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation representative for the north west Maura Hickey.

The hospital has been overcrowded on a number of occasions in the past two weeks, reaching a high of 45 people waiting for beds yesterday.

The hospital has implemented the full capacity protocol and deferred elective surgeries in the past two weeks but the numbers continue to rise.

Maura Hickey told Ocean FM it’s a worry that things are so bad before winter fully arrives.
