One of the biggest sporting events ever held in Sligo is set to take place at the running track at IT Sligo’s Knocknarea Arena this evening.
An Olympic Qualifier meet with take place, with hopes high that Sligo’s Mary Cullen can run within the 15 minutes 24 seconds standard to qualify for Rio in the 5,000 metres.
The elite race headlined by the North Sligo AC runner will get underway at 9pm, and there will be a number of other 5K events beforehand, getting underway from 6.45pm.
A elite men’s 1,500 metre race is also on the cards, as well as a number of field events.
**Timetable**
Athletes will be required to be on the track 10 minutes before the race start time. Number collection / Registration takes place in Knocknarea Arena.
Registration will close on the evening 20mins before the race start time so anyone planning on registering on the evening please don’t be late to avoid disappointment.
There will be two pacers in most of the 5000m paced races with both going at different paces to cover the range of target times in each race!!
