Tickets on sale now for Sligo GAA Day At The Races

Sligo GAA’s third annual Day At The Races at Cleeveragh Racecourse will take place on Tuesday, June 28.

This year’s event will feature seven races on the flat with top jockeys from across Ireland in attendance for what promises to be an excellent evening meeting.

Peter Greene, Sligo GAA County Board treasurer appealed to all clubs in the county to partake by organising groups within their club area to attend the evening for the GAA fraternity in Sligo.

He went on to say that the Day At The Races has its usual novel features this year including the EJs Mile event and the best dressed competitions for ladies, gents and couples all linked to the ‘Black & White’-themed event.

Patrons are asked to join in the fun by by dressing up in the black and white colours of the county.

There will be a fantastic array of prizes for the winners of the best dressed couple, best dressed lady and best dressed man.

Sligo native Louise Heraghty will take on the task of judging the best dressed lady competition. Prizes include a €250 voucher from Allure and a pair of tickets to the next race meeting in August.

The best dressed male competition will be judged by Mark Cunningham of EJs and again a super prize awaits the winner.

A prize of his and hers jewellery sponsored by Bernardine McGauran will be won by the best dressed couple as chosen by the judges.

The EJ-sponsored mile race created a novel attraction last year, and the race over the full Cleveragh course is open to one representative from each club in the county who must be a registered adult club-playing member.

Entries must be submitted by each club by Friday, June 24.

On the day each competitor will don their club jersey and the event, which was won last year by Keelan Kilrehill from St. Farnan’s, takes place after the fourth race on the card.

The race day ticket costs €25 or €20 per person for groups of 10 or more, which will provide patrons with admission to the event, a free race card, entry to a draw with €1,000 in prizes, entry to the Patrons Marquee with bar and Tote facilities, and entry to the post races barbecue at Kennedy’s Bar.

Tickets are available through all club secretaries and online at www.sligogaa.ie, while group tickets can be purchased by contacting Eamonn McMunn, Sligo GAA administrator on 071-9168750 at the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence, Scarden.

Peter Greene thanked all those on the organising committee and those who sponsored various events on the day, including media partners Ocean FM, EJ Menswear, Allure, Bernardine McGauran, and race sponsors Arken Construction and Joe Queenan Gala.
