Extra parental leave to be introduced



Parents of new children will be given up to four weeks’ extra paid parental leave in the New Year.

Two separate schemes are being rolled out to give time off to parents after the arrival of a new baby.

Enda Kenny says legislation for two weeks of paid paternity leave for new fathers will be approved by cabinet next week.

 

The Taoiseach says the cabinet will approve legislation to give new dads two weeks of paid paternity leave – while funding for the additional fortnight is expected to be included in the budget.

Former Senator and children’s rights campaigner Jillian Van Turnhout, says it’s been a long time coming.
