Indebted mortgage holders urged to show up or be represented when called to court

With more home repossession cases coming before the courts, an advisor with the Money Advice and Budgeting Service based in Sligo is pointing out the importance of people being present or represented when their cases go to court.

Yesterday, at the County Registrar’s court in Sligo, 39 cases were listed, with 25 of these being applications for possession orders — in other words, lenders seeking to take back properties.

However, none of the applications were granted.

But in 75% of the mortgage cases, there was no appearance in court for the people affected.

Joe Nevin, money advice coordinator with Sligo MABS, says people should show up or be represented.

And he emphasises help and support is available for these people from MABS at the County Registrar’s court on the second Wednesday of every momnth.
