Deputy Kenny: ‘Forestry replacing people’



A Sligo/Leitrim TD is claiming that forestry is replacing people in rural Ireland.

Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny says that where land is planted with trees, it is taken up for 60 years, with detrimental affects for surrounding areas.

He was speaking after a meeting in Drumshanbo last night where the issue of forestry in the county was top of agenda.

The meeting agreed to ask the Agriculture Minister and the Junior Minister with responsibility for forestry Andrew Doyle to come to Leitrim to see how forestry is slowly killing local communities.
