A County Donegal chartered engineer says the issue of defective concrete blocks in more than one thousand houses– and possibly up to 5,000 houses — in County Donegal is another legacy issue of building defects from the Celtic Tiger era.
The blocks crumble because they contain mica.
Damien McKay, a chartered engineer, says the problem is causing huge distress to homeowners.
A special RTE Prime Time programme on the issue was broadcast last night.
Today, Mr Mckay, a contributor to the programme, told Ocean FM the symptoms of the problem:
Mr McKay outlined the extent of the problem and explained how it arises from a weakness in concrete blocks used for building.
