Newly appointed Senator says he has worked hard to earn the role



Newly appointed Fine Gael Senator Frank Feighan has defended claims over the weekend that he is one of the Taoiseach’s ‘favorites’ stating he has worked hard to earn such a role.

Enda Kenny’s 11 appointments to the Upper House have been criticised in recent days.

Three of the appointments came from an apparent deal with Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin and there are claims that some of the Fine Gael appointments were mainly to ‘loyalists’ to the Taoiseach.

These include Mr. Feighan, former Minister James Reilly and former Mayo TDs John O’Mahony and Michelle Mulherin.

Some areas including Sligo and Leitrim were left with no Senators following the Seanad elections.

However, the Roscommon Senator says unfair events forced him out of politics and he feels he deserves the appointment and will work hard in the role:
