There were several impressive performances by Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal athletes at the Irish Schools Track & Field finals in Tullamore on Saturday.
Lucy McGlynn from Coláiste Cholmcille in Ballyshannon (pictured) won the two gold medals.
In-form Lucy McGlynn was a double gold medallist.
The Tir Chonaill AC athlete, won the 400m hurdles in 1:02.61 and the the 100m hurdles title in a 14.35 seconds.
Sean McGinley from St Eunan’s Letterkenny also won double gold in the 2000m steeplechase and the senior boys 1500 metres.
Alannah Anderson of Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town won gold in the minor girls shot put.
In total, Donegal athletes claimed 14 gold medals in county Offaly at the weekend.
Summerhill College Sligo took bronze in the intermediate boys 4x100m relay final with Joe Campbell also winning bronze in the individual 400m final.
Rosses Point’s Sean McCabe also took bronze for Summerhill in the intermediate boys long jump final.
Lough Allen College’s Mark Hazlette was the winner of the minor boys 75m hurdles. Brian Cullinan of Summerhill College was the silver medal winner of the that race.
Mercy College, Sligo athletes were placed second and third in the minor girls 75m hurdles. Emily Hession finished second while Riona Luse finished in third.
Darragh Mulrooney from Jesus & Mary Secondary School in Enniscrone won an impressive silver medal in the intermediate boys 3000m final.
There was silver too for St Attracta’s Community School’s Patrick Hyland in the 2000m walk.
Ursuline College student Orna Murphy was also on the podium in the field events, taking bronze in the intermediate girls long jump.
389 post primary schools from across Ireland were represented at the finals in Tullamore.
