Sligo’s Niall Burns finishes 3rd in Rally of the Lakes

Sligo navigator Niall Burns finished third overall alongside driver Jonny Greer in the prestigious Rally of the Lakes in Killarney on Sunday.

Massive crowds gathered Co Kerry, for the first major motor rally in the Kingdom in three years.

The rally was taking place for the 41st time, having been suspended in 2020 and again in 2021 because of the pandemic.

Thousands of spectators turned out to watch the two-day event with helicopters, as well as gardaí, out in force to assist rally organisers with traffic flow as followers headed to and from the Killarney rally’s spectacular stages.

Burns, who’s based in Donegal, earned a podium finish with Greer in their Citroen C3 after two days of closely-fought stages.

The Rally was won by Derry’s Callum Devine, who clinched his first win of the year with local co-driver Noel O’Sullivan.

Long-term rally leaders Alastair Fisher and Gordon Noble went off the road in a dramatic deciding stage.
