Emergency Covid Legislation could be extended until November

The Cabinet’s decision to seek an extension to the emergency Covid-19 Legislation until November 9th has been strongly criticised by many groups including The Irish Council for Civil Liberties.

They have called for the issue to be debated in the Oireachtas before any final decision would be taken on extending the legislation.

Sinn Fein are also expected to table a motion to amend the proposed legislation which would reduce the length of any extension.

The party spokesperson on justice and equality is Sligo/Leitrim TD Martin Kenny.

He says the emergency legislation should be reviewed before November.
