A Sligo Councillor has called on the Minster for Health, Stephen Donnelly to ensure that all members of An Garda Siochana be made one of the high priority groups for the Covid-19 vaccine.
Sligo Drumcliff Councillor Marie Casserly has expressed concern that members of the Gardai are essentially frontline workers and need to be treated the same as ambulance personnel.
Cllr Casserly says that if just one Garda contracts Covid-19 it could lead to an entire Garda unit being shut down.
The Independent Councillor says that Gardaí have been to the fore in the national effort to suppress the virus and are in daily contact with the public in addition to dealing with conflict and trying to enforce Covid-19 regulations.
