Olympic swimming qualifiers set for April

Mona McSharry’s main opportunity to qualify for the re-scheduled Tokyo Olympics will take place in April in Dublin when the national team trials take place from the 20th to the 24th at the National Aquatic Centre.

The event will be the principal qualifier for Irish swimmers for the Olympics, Paralympics, European Championships and World University Games later this year.

The Sligo woman is currently on a sports scholarship with the University of Tennessee in the United States – but will be required to fly back to Ireland by Swim Ireland to compete in the April event, if she wants to qualify for Tokyo.

There will also be a second opportunity to qualify at a separate event in June.

McSharry’s home coach, Grace Meade, has been explaining qualification process to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan..

The National Team Trials (April 20th-24th) are closed to spectators but will be streamed live by Swim Ireland.

The re-scheduled Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 23rd to August 8th.
