Local TD decribes charges against John Downey as ‘trumped up’

A local TD has described the charges levied against John Downey as ‘trumped up.’

The comments come from Sinn Fein Spokesperson on Justice and Equality, Martin kenny, following the extradition of Mr. Downey to Northern Ireland at the weekend after handing himself into Gardaí.

The Donegal man is accused of being involved in the deaths of Lance Corporal Alfred Johnston and Private James Eames of the UDR, after a device exploded in a car they were checking on the Irvinestown Road, Cherrymount, Enniskillen, in 1972.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Deputy Kenny says there is no case to answer.
