Donegal TD slams changes to legal aid rules

A Donegal TD is criticizing the Government over changes to legal aid rules involving personal insolvency cases.

It’s after the Government made a decision that people who cannot pay their personal debts will no longer be automatically given funding for a barrister.

This mean there is now a restriction on the fee given to people who are seeking help to legally challenge the banks who are not in agreement with suggestions made by the debtors’ Personal Insolvency Practitioners.

Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty has described the move as an attack on the most vulnerable and a coup for banks and vulture funds.

Deputy Doherty is asking the Government to reverse the decision.
