GAA: Leitrim make it three wins out of three

Leitrim gaelic footballers maintained their unbeaten start to Division 4 of the national football league on Sunday when they edged Antrim by a single point in a pulsating contest in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Domhnaill Flynn’s late free in added time proved to be the matchwinner as Leitrim backed up their recent league wins against Wexford and Wicklow with another spirited success here to win by 0-14 to 1-10.

Antrim led the contest by six points at one stage but Leitrim fought back tenaciously to edge the win. The result sees Leitrim continue to lead Division 4 on six points along with Derry and Limerick.

There was double success for the county’s adult teams on Sunday as Leitrim’s women’s footballers began their Division 4 campaign with a spirited 3-3 to 0-8 win against Derry in Aughnasheelin.

12 months ago, the Leitrim ladies team dropped out of the league mid-season, and failed to field for the 2018 championship. But, following the recent formation of a new executive and appointment of Gavin Cawley as team manager, leitrim made a winning return to competitive action.
