Sligo are Fr Manning Cup champions

Sligo’s under 16 gaelic footballers are Fr Manning Cup winners once again after beating Wicklow in Saturday’s final at Glennon Pearse Park in Longford, on a final scoreline of 2-14 to 1-9.

Sligo were favourites coming into this game, but they needed to be at their best to see off a plucky Wicklow side.

The Fr. Manning Cup is one of the longest running under 16, intercounty football tournament’s, dating back to 1965.

This was the first Wicklow team to qualify for the final against a strong Sligo side who were unbeaten, having beaten Meath, Offaly and Longford en route to the final.
