Getting a medical card is now becoming as difficult as ‘applying for a mortgage’.

That’s according to Leitrim Councillor Padraig Fallon who is the latest politician to call for changes to ensure that anyone diagnosed with cancer is automatically entitled to a medical card.

The issue has already been raised in the Dail by Deputy Eamon Scanlon but Leitrim County Council now also plans to write to other Councils in an effort to increase pressure on the Health Minister.

Councillor Fallon said the amount of information required to apply for the card by people who really need it is frustrating:
