Updated: Vehicles stuck on treacherous roads in the North West



11am:

Gardai say there were a number of minor crashes as a result of the weather this morning in Leitrim, Sligo and south Donegal.

The roads have improved but the Authorities are urging people to be careful on all roads today.

A Status Yellow Weather Warning for Snow and Ice is in place for the entire country, valid until midday today (19th) and Gardaí are reporting very poor conditions in most parts.

The worst affected areas appear to be most of Munster, the Midlands and parts of Connacht and Ulster, according to the AA.

Reduce your speed and remember that stopping distances are up to ten times longer in icy conditions.

8am:

A number of vehicles including two trucks have got stuck on treacherous roads this morning in the region.

Reports confirm that the Manorhamilton area is particular bad with heavy snow and some roads described as almost impassable.

Some school bus services have been cancelled in the area this morning and in the past half hour Leckaun National School has confirmed that it will close today.

Gardai are warning motorist not to go out unless absolutely necessary.

Roads in many other parts of the region are dangerous with balck ice. The Authorities are warning motorist to slow down.
