Donegal Cllrs adjourn meeting as Council seeks to hike rates by 5%



Donegal County Councils budget meeting has been adjourned for a second time today as Councillors try to find a solution to a proposed hike in rates for businesses.

The county manager has proposed a 5% rates increase, but all parties have voted against it.

The rates increase is the equivalent of €1.7m, and Cllrs have to now find a way to fill that gap to pass the budget.

The budget has to be passed by Sunday. In 2014 Donegal County Council was on the verge of collapse, before the budget was passed at the last minute.
