In north west, most of those commuting to work travel in cars

More than 70% of workers in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal use their cars to get to work.

And just over one per cent of commuters in the three counties use public transport.

That’s according to the 2016 Census figures which showed the car is still the most popular choice for commuters.

But while public transport is having its busiest year ever, there’s more cars on the roads in the north west.

Barry Kenny from Iarnod Eireann says more investment is needed in public transport to ease congestion on our roads.
