Minister accuses farm organisations of ‘scaremongering’ over vet labs



The Minister for Agriculture has accused farming organisations of ‘scaremongering’ following leaked reports looking at the future of the Regional Veterinary Labs.

Minister Michael Creed was responding to a question from Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue in the Dail on behalf of Sligo Leitrim TD Eamon Scanlon.

He called for an update on the review being carried out on the 6 labs around the country emphasising any threat to the Doonally in Sligo simply would not be accepted by farmers.

Minister Creed said that the review was commissioned with the aim of improving the service and that consultation with staff on that document is still ongoing.

But he emphasised that no decision has yet been made and he feels an element of ‘scare-mongering’ has been taking place:
